Richard Brace won't let his wife Maria behind the wheel of his hand built Ford Track Roadster - even when they're driving for charity.
The Hastings couple were out last night in their 1923 yellow-and-green roadster as part of the annual Eastside Street Rod's toy run, which collects toys to donate
to the Salvation Army.
So while Mr Brace drove, Mrs Brace went shopping, buying a bag load of toys for the collection. "I bought a bag with assorted things like rattles. You can bring anything," she said.
The couple, in goggles and hats, drove one of a fleet 26 cars from five car clubs - Eastside Street Rods, Kiwi Rodders, Marineland Rod and Custom, Hawke's Bay Rod and Custom and the early American Car Club - that cruised the streets from Splash Planet in Hastings to Napier's Sound Shell.
Eastside Street Rod's president Warren Isted said it was the fourth year the event had run and they had collected more than 100 toys for underprivileged children.
"Every person (in the car club) who comes brings a toy," he said
"This year we have also invited people to come and view cars and they can come and donate a toy as well."
