A 40-year-old man had a lucky escape when he was thrown from his motorcycle when it collided with a car at the intersection of Links Rd and the Hawke's Bay Expressway near Taradale yesterday.
Police said the bike was travelling north on the expressway when a car attempted to make a
right turn on to the expressway from Links Rd, about 3pm.
The impact of the Harley Davidson bike hitting the right side of the car had thrown the motorcyclist over the vehicle and on to the road. Sergeant Ray Wylie of Napier police said the driver of the car, a 29-year-old woman, "for some reason" did not see the motorbike when she went to make the turn.
"The motorcyclist was wearing all the correct safety gear which saved him from serious injury.
"He had some minor cuts and possibly a sprained ankle but was taken to (Hawke's Bay) Hospital."
Mr Wylie said the driver of the car was not injured but was shaken after the incident.
"There was no alcohol involved, speed wasn't a factor and so it's about driver awareness and that's the message we need to put out there."
