Despite the chilly weather making a comeback mid-week, Bowe said it wasn't going to last very long.
"Coming into Friday, it's going to be cloudy with isolated showers, clearing later in the day and the southerlies will start to die out. Then Saturday it will be fine with light winds and Sunday will also be fine with northwesterlies developing, the temperature will reach a high of 13 degrees."
Bowe said the showery weather was due to a trough of low pressure lingering around the central North Island, moving north during the day and bringing showers with some possible heavy falls to western and northern areas as well.
The lower North Island could expect cooler temperatures with showers gradually easing during the evening.
"Clearing skies will mean cool temperatures and morning frosts, but better chances for Matariki viewers," he said.
"Hawke's Bay has got it pretty good compared to other areas, you're on an 'upward trend', as it were."
The region is in for more surprising temperatures, as next Monday will reach a high 17 degrees. It will continue to stay over 15 degrees for much of next week.
Overnight low temperatures will sit between 4 and 7 degrees.
