Napier Port's former administration building.
Napier Port's former administration building is disappearing as the port gears up for continued efficiencies.
Along with the old operations building, it was earthquake prone and has been replaced with a new building at the port's gates in Breakwater Rd.
Other recent port investments include a 7ha depot for empty
containers, a vehicle booking system, additional lanes and realignment of the container terminal gate, more container handling equipment and two cranes costing more than $13 million.
Napier Port is the fourth-largest container terminal in New Zealand behind Auckland, Tauranga and Lyttelton, handling more containerised cargo than Wellington, Nelson and Taranaki combined. Pictured in the foreground is a truck from Pan Pac Forest Products, the port's biggest customer.
