Police are investigating a spate of vehicles being broken into in Napier over six days this month.

Tools from tradies' vans and mag wheels from cars were targets in Napier Hill, Meeanee and Napier South.

Thieves took items from 11 vehicles between Thursday, May 17, and Tuesday, May 22.

Acting Sergeant Peter Gimblett said inquiries were being made and police patrols were actively watching for any criminal activity around vehicles.

"We are also asking people to think twice if they're offered stolen tools or mag wheels, and to tell police about the seller.

"We encourage tradies to get their tools engraved with their driver's licence number, so if the tools are recovered, we can return them."

Community Patrols of New Zealand in Taradale is offering to engrave tools for free.

People can call 021 929 098 to arrange a time to get their tools marked up, he said.

For owners of mag wheels, security locking nuts can be bought from auto stores.

If anyone's vehicle has been targeted, or if people have information which would help catch these offenders, call police on 06 831 0700.

Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers via 0800 555 111.

Earlier this month police were on the lookout for wheels being stolen from cars parked on the road in Napier between May 10-11.

Napier kōhanga reo van stolen

20 May 06:00 PM

People were reminded to know their wheel type, size and any marks to help identify them.

Yesterday a police spokesperson said that after a search warrant at a Hawke's Bay address on Thursday stolen property was recovered and one owner was able to be reunited with his stolen wheels and another with his stolen trailer.

Last weekend a Napier kohanga reo van was stolen. The white van branded with the name Whakakotahitanga Kohanga Reo was used to transport children on outings as well as whanau transport for training, hui and wananga.

It was discovered missing on the morning of Saturday, May 19.
