A person has been caught and taken into custody after a police chase ended in a crash near Hastings.

A police spokeswoman said a vehicle of interest to police failed to stop around 10.30am on Wednesday, near the intersection of Railway Rd (State Highway 51) and Davis Rd.

The crash occurred down Davis Rd shortly after.

Two others in the car suffered minor injuries in the crash, according to a St John ambulance spokeswoman.

They were not transported to Hawke's Bay Hospital, she said.

Officers, including members of the police dog squad, searched for one person involved in the crash.

Workers in the field directly opposite told Hawke's Bay Today they heard a "big loud bang" and came racing to see what had happened.
