Mr Yule said trailers in particular were hot ticket items for thieves and were very easy to "rebirth" - through plates and all distinguishing items being removed to allow the offender to re-register the trailer as "homebuilt".
He said police strongly suggest that trailers be secured by way of wheel lock, tow ball lock or locked to a fixed point.
"It is also a good practice to take photographs of the trailer or any item including any identifying features such as dents or markings," Mr Yule said.
"If the trailer is stolen then police can electronically attach photos to the file making it easier for staff to identify stolen items."
He also urged burglary victims to ensure their loss was reported to police.
"In this instance we had a good outcome but every year police have thousands of dollars worth of recovered property which is never identified because it is not reported stolen at the time by its owners," Mr Yule said.
