Jontelle Turvey, beauty therapist and owner operator of La Belle Vous

Jontelle Turvey, beauty therapist and owner operator of La Belle Vous

I was lucky enough to be visiting beauty therapist Jontelle Turvey on her first day of fulltime work from her home.

Her business, La Belle Vous which means "The Beautiful You", is run from her Hastings home and her diary for her first fulltime day was full.

"I'm really excited to finally be doing what I love fulltime. My day is packed, it's fantastic - start as you mean to go on, I say," Jontelle said with grin.

Jontelle studied at Elite International School of Beauty & Spa Therapies in Wellington (one year to be a qualified beauty therapist then a further six months to be a qualified spa therapist). She received two international qualifications and won Student of the Year (2013)

Since then she has been working part time from home. She has gradually built her business up and has been getting busier and busier.

"I decided to take the plunge and go fulltime," she said.

Her goal is to offer professional, hygienic and outstanding service "you won't forget".
I can vouch for this after my amazing experience with this warm and friendly young woman.

I had an express facial and then something rather unusual, Hopi Ear Candling, an ancient American Indian treatment.

"It's non invasive and used to treat a variety of conditions such as excessive wax, sinus irritation, tinnitus and colds by drawing out any impurities to the surface. Then they are able to be removed safely leaving a feeling of clarity and relaxation," Jontelle said.

This treatment also includes a face and scalp massage to aid lymph drainage.

I was welcomed me into Jontelle's home and ushered into her treatment room which was warm and inviting.

After a quick consultation I was left to make myself comfortable.

The express facial took 30 minutes and I could tell as soon as she touched me that it was going to be good.

She cleansed and exfoliated my skin before putting on a mask and then finished off with moisturiser and sun protection.

Her touch was firm when needed and gentle at other times. It was absolutely divine.
Perfect if you are in a hurry but want to give your skin a treat.

Then it was time for the Hopi Ear Candling. I admit I was a little nervous about this. Flames coming out of my ear, however, Jontelle assured me there was nothing to worry about.

Once positioned to Jontelle's satisfaction the candle, made from beeswax, cotton and essential oils ( all natural ingredients) was placed in my ear. Then she lit the end of it. I could hear what sounding like a fire burning in the background and then there were popping and hissing sounds, which was what Jontelle wanted to hear.

The treatment works by warming up the ear canal like a chimney and drawing up toxic impurities and wax. I won't go into details about what was inside the "chimney" part of the candle but suffice to say my ears felt a lot better and clearer.

After treatment in both ears Jontelle massaged my scalp and face concentrating on lymph drainage.

I had a second treatment and am amazed at how well it works. We even got a little puff of white smoke on the second treatment which Jontelle indicated a blockage has been cleared.

I was really impressed with the way Jontelle worked.

She is relaxed, friendly and professional.

Jontelle uses and sells only organic products including Sabore, a New Zealand made organic skincare line containing potent levels of active plant-based ingredients to work with the skin's ability to heal itself, along with support for collagen synthesis and cellular renewal.

"Sabore is made fresh to order, is affordable, and uses no artificial fillers or preservatives, so nutrient rich for your skin," Jontelle said.

"Ten per cent of nutritional food goes to our skin, the rest goes to our organs to keep us alive. Therefore, it is essential to apply nutrition to our skin topically via quality organic skincare to absorb into the skin. A majority of all over the counter or supermarket skincare will just sit on the surface of the skin. Use quality!"

Great advice.
