The combination of organ and trumpet makes a thrilling sound and can be experienced in a concert in St John's Cathedral, Napier, from organist Timothy Noon and trumpeter Bill Stoneham in a concert at 2pm this Saturday.
With a strong emphasis on French romanticism, the pair will make full use of the new French-style console of the organ and the historic vibrant acoustics of the Cathedral. The programme will feature the compositional styles of Tomasi, Couperin, Ravel and Berlioz, ending with the New Zealand premiere of Naji Hakim's celebrated Sonata for Trumpet and Organ.
Noon has performed as a soloist with the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra and the Auckland Symphony Orchestra. He serves on the boards of the Australia and New Zealand College of Organists and the New Zealand Choral Federation, is an examiner for the ABRSM and sings in several Auckland-based groups.
He is active as a composer and arranger and has been published by the RSCM, Encore and Novello.
Stoneham began playing the trumpet at the age of 8 under the guidance of his father and has been tutored by acclaimed trumpet players from the UK, Sweden, Finland, Russia, USA, New Zealand and Australia.
