Lesperance said it is exciting for their 120 staff, management and board to see the finish in sight.
"We have a huge amount of activity happening now as the GEMCO team and its subcontractors finish the fit out and all the equipment and new technology starts arriving including state-of-the-art x-ray machine from Europe this week."
The 4000m2 building, on the 7700m2 site, stands three levels high with 143 car parks. The ground floor includes urgent care, radiology, ultrasound, a large pharmacy, laboratory, dentist, physiotherapy, podiatry and a coffee bar.
The first floor will house the family doctor and nursing suites with 57 consulting and treatment rooms along with three reception areas. While the second floor is for staff breakout, meetings, administration and management space.
Lesperance said the centre, in partnership with other regional providers, is focused on improving the health and wellbeing of patients and to reduce health inequities within Hawke's Bay.
"We are all working to improve health outcomes for the region by offering the best integrated general practice, nursing and primary care delivering quality, innovative and sustainable patient centred health services in collaboration with our local community."
Hawke's Bay District Health Board chief medical officer primary care, Dr Mark Peterson, says the facility is an exciting addition to the region's health care services.
"The expansion of its urgent care capacity means more people will be able to be seen between the hours of 8am and 9pm. That, combined with the many other after hours providers that are also open, gives people plenty of choice," said Dr Peterson.
Health Hawke's Bay chief executive Wayne Woolrich says after-hours options, including pharmacies, were available to people from Central Hawke's Bay to Wairoa - all aiming to give timely, quality care.
"In the Hastings district alone people have five different after hours accident and medical providers to choose from who all work very closely with Emergency Department teams should they come across presentations of an emergency or life-threatening nature.
"After-hours pharmacies also provide a fantastic service."
Old Hastings Health Centre building on the market
The Hastings Health Centre opened at its current Queen St site in May 2002, as one of the country's first Integrated Family Health Centres by a group of nine shareholders led by Dr Michael Hewitt.
The land and buildings have been placed on the market for sale or lease through Bayleys Havelock North.
Salesman Rollo Vavasour said they are looking for an alternative user for the building.
He said they had already had interest from various groups, including office, accommodation and retail, but had not got a "binding agreement in place yet".
"The building itself is in pretty good condition and it is just a matter of finding the right user, which with the general shortage of space, and the buoyant nature of the Hawke's Bay economy, we expect to get a result sooner rather than later."
