Neighbour helps catch burglars

A quick-thinking neighbour helped police catch two burglars.

A Napier man heard intruders in his home just after midnight so he left the house to phone the police. He also told a neighbour about the break-in.

The neighbour followed the intruders from the man's house to another Napier address and then told police of their location.

Police recovered a number of electronic items that had been taken during the break-in, and arrested two men and charged them with burglary.

Senior Sergeant Mike Stevenson said this was a good example of the community being eyes and ears for the police.

"Thanks to the quick-thinking of both the victim and his neighbour, Police were able to quickly identify those responsible and recover the stolen property," he said.

The two men will appear in Napier District Court on Wednesday.
