By now a large majority of students will have logged on to the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) website to check how they went in last year's exams.

Results for the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA) were made available to about 168,000 students across levels 1, 2 and 3 on Tuesday morning.

A total of 5435 students in Hawke's Bay sat examinations: 2438 in level 1, 2081 in level 2 and 1552 in level 3.

We profile some of the top students from schools around the region.

Rebecca Mogey
As 2017 Dux of Sacred Heart College, Rebecca Mogey took six level 3 subjects - history, classical studies, English, photography, design, and religion - as well as scholarship photography, English, geography and history.

Having already gained her excellence endorsement before the exams, her final marks granted her University Entrance and subject endorsements.

"I didn't find the exams too difficult as I had been well prepared by my teachers and my personal revision. I was nervous about checking my results as you never know how NCEA markers have perceived your work. However, I'm relieved that my hard work and support from staff at SHC has paid off."

He received an excellence endorsement in level 2 and 3 music, level 3 chemistry, level 2 physics, French, and received excellence in level 1 Latin and calculus.

Having already passed level 2 and 3 with an excellence endorsement, Mr Eldridge is tossing up whether or not he will complete year 13 next year, or go straight to university.
