The winding bike trails of Napier have been recognised as one of the best places to cycle in New Zealand - with the city winning the title of best Urban Trail or Commute in the country.

As cyclists enjoyed the Napier's rotary pathway on Marine Parade yesterday afternoon, they witnessed the official handover of the Bikewise sign announcing Napier's new title from NZTA Napier highway manager Chuck Dowdell to Napier City Council chief executive Wayne Jack and councillors Richard McGrath, and Mark Hamilton.

With voting opening in January, more than 10,000 nominations and votes were received this year across four categories in an online poll. Other categories included New Zealand's best cycle trail, off-road or adventure trail, and on-road ride.
