A chance to have some summer fun at a street party in the Napier CBD this weekend will go ahead despite the showery weather forecast.
Predictions of occasional showers were not expected to put a dampener on the family-friendly Summer Street Party being held this Saturday.
Stretching the lengthof Emerson St the event was set to run from 10am to 3pm and have three entertainment zones, one specifically for children.
The closed street would come alive with entertainment from kapa haka from the talented Nga Uri o Pania, acrobatics by Parkour, Bay Batucada Drummers, buskers, photo booths, free face painting for kids and a sneak peek at the upcoming Madame Butterfly opera.
Napier City Business Inc manager Zoe Barnes said she was pleased to support the Napier City Council with the initiative to bring the street alive over the very busy weekend
The Napier CBD had been experiencing a hectic summer period and this weekend was expected to be no different with two visiting cruise ships, a concert, Waitangi Day travellers in town and plenty of locals staying home for the weekend, she said.
"We wanted to really show Napier off and make the most of the crowds by having entertainment along Emerson St throughout the day.
"Along with the shopping and everything else the CBD has to offer it is sure to be a day out for the whole family. Come along and see Napier CBD at its finest."
