A man has approached two children outside a Napier school and made inappropriate comments to them, police have confirmed.
A police spokesperson said they had received two reports of the man's behaviour last week. They said they were unable to confirm which school the students attended.
"As a result ofthese reports, police and the Ministry of Education have been working with schools in the area to raise awareness, and to help teachers and principals have conversations with schoolchildren about what they should do if they feel unsafe."
Police said parents should encourage children and young adults to report anything that makes them feel unsafe or uncomfortable.
"This can be to a trusted adult, a teacher, or the police. Any suspicious behaviour should be reported to police immediately by phoning 111."
Ministry of Education spokeswoman Katrina Casey said police contacted them on Friday letting them know about the situation.
"The safety and wellbeing of our children and young people is a top priority for all schools and the ministry."
"We are working with police to ensure all schools are aware and will also be promoting the safe practices around walking to and from school with their school communities."
