The Napier City Council grants allocation sub-committee has given the green light to spread $74,400 throughout 46 community organisations in the city.
"These grants are often a lifeline for the organisations who may get a small amount of the $74,400 because it has to go a long way, but we can
fund expenses other funders do not," said Napier Mayor Barbara Arnott.
"This is our community and these are our people either volunteering or getting some help. We need to support them."
Each resident contributes $1.30 to the funding in this case of the community assisting itself.
The council has also provided about $450,000 for contracts to organisations which can be accessed by all residents, such as Sport Hawke's Bay, Neighbourhood Support, Citizens Advice Bureau, Surf Lifesaving and Creative Napier.
