Mt Mable Angus bulls under the hammer

A large crowd of spirited bidders.

Mt Mable Angus held its 33rd annual sale on Monday June 11 at its venue on Jackson Road, Kumeroa.

43 rising two-year-old Angus bulls with an average weight of 828 kg were offered to a discerning bench of buyers.

A strong reputation built up over 50 years of careful breeding resulted in what owner Kevin Friel described after bidding ended "a tremendous sale".

This Cricklewood J33 sired rising two year old Angus bull sold for $11,000, just over the average for the sale.

Spirited bidding, overseen by PGG Wrightson Auctioneer Cam Heggie meant 40 of the bulls sold under the hammer for an average price of $10,700.

Two more bulls were sold immediately after the sale.

This fellow from the same sire sold for $11,000 as well.

Of the 42 bulls sold, 36 have been bought by repeat buyers with Lot 2 being sold for $20,000 to the Gower family of Tokirima who have been buying a Mt Mable bull every year since 1985.

Two bulls were sold to stud with Shian Angus, Taumarunui, picking up Lot 15 for $10,500 and the Dorotich family buying Lot 10, also for $10,500, to join their newly-formed Angus stud based at Kia Ora Station at Waitahora.

Kevin and Megan Friel are delighted with the sale result and thanked their buyers, under bidders, regular helpers and the team at PGG Wrightson for their assistance in the successful sale.
