Eight dentists will give up their Saturday on May 16 to see 50 patients who don't have access to dental services.
The new initiative is being rolled out by the New Zealand Dental Association, which asked regions for volunteers for free clinics. It is hoped it will become an annualday for Community Service card holders needing dental work.
Procedures have been narrowed down to include, "relief of pain conditions" such as fillings, extractions and gum cleaning.
From 8am to 5pm at Dental on Raffles in Napier, dentists will work through a day of pre-bookings.
"There was no problem filling those 50 places ... it all depends on how many volunteer dentists we get, they give up four hours each," Hawke's Bay Dental Association president Rob Kanagaratnam said.
