One of the most recognised cars in the world, and a popular target for hot rod builders, will be the toast of this Sunday's big Hot Rod and Classic Car Festival being staged at the Meeanee Domain off Sandy Rd.
For the organisers, the Marineland Street Rod and Kustom Klub,it was an easy choice for a theme for the 25th annual show as 50 years ago, when the club was founded, the members chose a 'T' bucket for the fledgling club's logo.
"So we thought it appropriate to celebrate that anniversary this year," club stalwart Malcolm Wilkie said.
There will be standard vintage Model Ts as well as the modified jobs including hot rods and dragsters "and everything in between".
Mr Wilkie said there would also be the swap stalls and displays, including the popular car drop, dragster "fire-ups", remote car racing and children's rides.
Food and drink stalls would also be set up because the event was designed to be family friendly, he said.
There is also the opportunity for people to get a close-up look at the Lowe Corporation rescue helicopter as they were the nominated charity the show would be raising funds for. "Although of course it will only be there if it is available as it could be called away."
The annual show has become one of the largest gatherings of diverse and classic vehicles staged in the country and draws people from all over the North Island.
Visiting hot rodders will take part in a rod run on Saturday, enjoying some of the Bay's top spots as well as a social evening. The Sunday show was the opportunity to shine up and show off what they had to the public with adult entry of $10 and $3 for young people between 5 and 13.
