A package that went missing near Napier with $25,000 worth of rowing equipment inside has been found.

A story featured in Hawke’s Bay Today last week calling for information to help find the package.

It was thought to have been stolen, which led to the public appeal from SL Racing and a report to police.

The package was dropped off by a courier at the company’s gate, off Puketapu Rd, between Taradale and Puketapu, early on Friday, February 27.

SL Racing staff were yet to arrive at the property, but received a picture of the package after it was dropped off.

It appears another courier picked it up shortly after.

It was located in Auckland at a depot about a week later by SL Racing’s contracted courier company, SL Racing confirmed.

The package had originally been delivered from overseas.

SL Racing co-owner Simon Lack said he was relieved to have it returned.

The package included eight carbon sweep riggers, destined to be used on a new eight-man boat at the Maadi Cup competition later this month.

A huge amount of work had gone into the design, and there was not enough time for replacements to be made for the competition.

Lack confirmed the parts had since been shipped south and were “on the water in Twizel” this week, before the major secondary schools competition.

SL Racing is a highly-regarded boat maker and its customers include Olympic athletes such as gold medallist Emma Twigg.
