Two men were ordered by police to pick up all the records they decided to throw off Te Mata Peak this week.
Police were called to the attraction after two men were spotted throwing the discs from the top look out, over the walking track and onto the park belowabout 3pm on Tuesday.
Te Mata Peak Trust Board chairman Bruno Chambers said such hi-jinx were a big problem in the park.
"It is littering and it is unfortunate we haven't got any other bylaws or punishment we can deal out to people like that," he said.
"The amount of debris that there has been cleaned up from the bottom of the peak, about a year ago we had 1,100 tyres and assorted rubbish. "Just how much debris had been thrown off was quite appalling."
"We try to encourage public awareness and public responsibility in the event of them seeing stuff like this and I applaud whoever it was that called the police.
Mr Chambers said it was a "sad indictment" that people wanted to destroy the area.
The man who called police did not wish to be named but said the records were flying over the walkway and could easily have hit people walking there.
