Hastings Mayor Lawrence Yule is "not nervous at all" about his upcoming nuptials.

Mr Yule will wed Napier woman Kerryn Jones, his partner of seven years, tomorrow.

As president of Local Government New Zealand, Mr Yule said his roles were demanding but he and Miss Jones had had a discussion and felt the time was right to take the next step.

Mr Yule, 51, met Kerryn in 2008 through a work project and has been living in Napier since vacating his gardeners cottage in Havelock North.

The pair have been engaged since November last year.

He would not be drawn on how he proposed but said it had been a "traditional proposal".

The wedding will be a private affair at Waiapu Cathedral of St John the Evangelist in Napier.

"We are both looking forward to our future together," he said.

Councillors, friends and family would attend the Mission Estate Winery for the reception.

Mr Yule has four children from a previous marriage.
