Long standing Council member and Napier born Mark Herbert has been voted out of Napier City Council.

"That's life. You put your name forward and you give it a go", Mr Herbert said.

"Sooner or later you either get voted out or retire. I would've liked to do one more term."

Reflecting back on his achievements as a council member Mr Herbert said McLean Park was his biggest." McLean Park was my pet project. I love rugby, I love cricket."

Within his time on Council he was influential in the idea and fundraising for the new stand at the park.

As well as his contribution to the park, he has long-term achievements which include Ocean Spa, MTG and the War Memorial Conference Centre redevelopment.

He is also a member of the Marine Parade Development committee which is subject to the redevelopment of the archetypal Hawke's Bay tourism attraction.

Mr Herbert strongly believes Napier City is looking good.

"Good things are happening. It's something to be proud of."

And what's he going to miss?

"I'm going to miss the camaraderie. I've worked with some very good people."
