Police have named the 62-year-old man killed in the crash along White Rd last Sunday night.

Police have named the 62-year-old man who died after a crash on White Rd, Waipawa, on Sunday night.

Glennard Hirini Gotty of Hastings died after his vehicle crashed into a fence about 6pm.

He was taken to Hawke's Bay Hospital with moderate to serious injuries and later died.

A man who heard the crash along White Rd said yesterday that the area was subject to accidents and this was another one to add to the list.

He said he looked out of his door but didn't realise a car had come off the road until he saw the fire engine and flashing lights near his home.

This was the 12th fatal crash on Hawke's Bay and Tararua roads for the year, which was thought to be four more than at the same time last year.

Police said their thoughts were with the family and friends of Mr Gotty at this time.
