Man stabbed with eel spear in Hastings street attack

The injured man was taken to Hawke’s Bay Hospital.

A man has moderate injuries after being stabbed with an eel spear on a suburban Hastings street.

A police spokesperson said a 19-year-old man had been arrested and charged with wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm after the assault on Wall Rd, Raureka, about 6pm on Sunday.

It’s understood the weapon used was an eel spear and the victim was stabbed in the stomach.

The police spokesperson said the man was taken to Hawke’s Bay Hospital.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said it sent one ambulance and one rapid response unit to the incident and treated one man in a moderate condition.

“We understand another person self-presented to hospital.”
