Police were last night still investigating the robbery of a Hastings bottle store in which a person fled with what was thought to have been part of the till.

However, police were not confirming what was taken or what weapons were used in the raid, which happened about 6.25pm at a bottle store in the Angus Inn complex off Railway Rd and adjacent to the Hastings racecourse.

Police were also not confirming any link between the robbery and police converging on an address on the opposite side of railway road at the corner of Karamu and Pattison roads and taking a person away barely 15 minutes after the robbery.

A person was thought to have worn a bandanna, balaclava or hood to disguise the face.

Police said no one was injured in the robbery but those involved were "understandably shaken''.

The bottle store has been robbed several times over the years, most recently understood to have been in 2010 when a man recently released from jail fled with just a can of bourbon and cola, resulting in him being jailed for another two years.

Aggravated robbery carries a maximum penalty of 14 years in prison.
