A man being hunted by the Armed Offenders Squad in Hastings has handed himself in.
The man walked into the Flaxmere police station just after 3pm, a police statement this afternoon said.
It was initially thought the man had been on the streets near a local primary school with a
gun, but this information turned out to be incorrect, police said.
Peterhead School in Flaxmere had been locked down by police, with pupils told to stay indoors, as a search for the alleged gunman in the area took place.
A Peterhead School spokeswoman, in Flaxmere, said police had been talking with the school principal and no children had been allowed to leave the school until police gave the all clear.
