A 43 year-old man was charged with the aggravated robbery of a King St sports bar and TAB and will appear in the Hastings District Court tomorrow.

The incident occurred on Tuesday June 7 when two men, including the man charged, entered the bar and threatened staff with a knife.

Detective Sergeant Craig Vining of Hawke's Bay CIB said an employee was assaulted during the robbery and cash was taken.

"This has been a lengthy investigation and it is extremely satisfying to place one of the offenders before the court."

Police were continuing to investigate and were following strong lines of enquiry in relation to the co-offenders, one who was likely the get away driver.

Mr Vining said police believed one of the offenders had gone on to commit another local aggravated robbery in early July and were continuing to build a case so the remaining offenders would be prosecuted.

"In recent weeks, police have successfully identified and charged various offenders with robberies that have occurred throughout the region."

They wanted to thank the public and the media for their ongoing assistance, information and support.
