A man has suffered an anaphylactic shock after being attacked by a swarm of wasps today.

It's understood he was chainsawing a log of wood when he accidentally cut through a wasp nest on a rural property in Porangahau at about 9am.

He was flown to Hawke's Bay Hospital by Lowe Corporation Rescue Helicopter in a stable condition, for further treatment.
