Mr and Mrs Greenstein were overjoyed to be reunited with their feline friend.
"It was absolutely incredible," Mrs Greenstein
"Mia became our hero."
The couple had put posters up all over the area including on the hospital building.
Karel said that Matzah was in reasonably good health on her return home.
"She wasn't overly thin so she obviously found something to munch on.
"She was very thirsty, she drank about a gallon of water," she said.
Mr and Mrs Greenstein recently moved to Napier from Auckland and are grateful to the "tight knit community" for their search efforts.
"It feels pretty good to be here," Mr Greenstein told Hawke's Bay Today.
