"I'm having the best night of my life," Lionel Richie yelled to a crowd of screaming fans at his Church Road concert on Saturday.
The singer burst onto the stage, full of energy with an upbeat version of All Around the World to start, which had everyone from the front to
the back of the venue on their feet.
The 61-year-old kept the pace all night long, dancing and engaging with fans.
"When they said I was coming to wine country, I was expecting a laid-back crowd, but this is not a laid-back crowd.
"Whatever they are drinking, I want cases of it," he quipped.
Even during the mellow songs in his set, people swayed and sung along while Richie transitioned moods with ease, taking a seat at the piano.
But he didn't pull it off alone. His back-up band were very much a part of the evening's entertainment.
The lead guitarist - a Jon Bon Jovi look-alike - wowed the crowd playing a couple of songs with the guitar behind his head, and the bassist kept step dancing alongside Richie.
It seemed the star of the show loved performing as much as those who had come to see him.
"I am lucky to be here to enjoy a beautiful night under the stars and a full moon."
The crowd was in for a big surprise later in the set with Richie bringing two original members of The Commodores - bassist Ron La Pread and guitarist Tommy McClary to the stage to cap the night off.
Easy was the first song Richie played with his old bandmates and there was not a face without a smile anywhere to be seen.
A big screen above the stage was reminiscent of a Las Vegas club as it flashed with the words to the chorus of Brick House and rolled out images alongside Dancing on the Ceiling.
As the night drew to a close, the lights dimmed and the crowd roared Richie back on to the stage for an encore which included one of his best known hits - All Night Long.
The 2003 Australian Idol winner, Guy Sebastian, opened the evening playing all his chart-topping songs to a responsive audience. In particular his latest release Who's That Girl had everyone tapping their toes.
