A groundswell of tradie support is gaining momentum for the Swannell family's Limitless Hope Emergency Shelter Appeal.
The appeal has already attracted numerous support from locals, with recent additions including Bob and Fiona McElory from Crafted Concrete, who donated 50 pavers. Angus McMillan concrete and Electrician Tee Hunt have both offered labour.
Dave Smith from Garden Make Overs HB, who has donated plants and soft landscaping, said he believed the new shelter would be a much-needed community resource.
"This particular project can have a ripple effect on the community," Mr Smith said. "It's the kind of thing I'd love to get involved in." He also said it's about "karma".
"I've grown to believe what goes around comes around. It's all about the circle of influence." He said Hawke's Bay is one of a kind - "I just love the place."
The Hawke's Bay Today- supported appeal was sparked after Property Brokers donated a two-storey building for the family to relocate and renovate as a shelter for the homeless.
Alison Banks from AliBeez Handmade Cards has offered all proceeds from card sales this month and Sainsbury Logan and Williams' law partner Magnus Macfarlane volunteered his services to set up the charitable trust.
Kiri and husband Kevin Swannell said they were stoked at the number of tradespeople and professionals offering their services.
The possibility of a fundraising dinner has also been raised. There was no set date or venue, but Mrs Swannell had high hopes of what could be involved. "People could possibly buy tickets for the event and a certain percentage goes to the organisation," she said.
Despite the support, more help was needed. "We are asking the public and businesses to provide any goods and services they can provide."
The campaign's facebook page now has more than 1600 likes and has multiple comments from locals expressing their support for the project. The building needs to be moved within the next three months, and will cost about $100,000 to move.
