Wairoa is set to become a more energy-efficient town, with 3000 households to be given energy-saving lightbulbs.
The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (EECA), in partnership with New World Wairoa, will give out five LED lightbulbs in the local community free of charge between October 23 and November 1.
EECA chief executive Andrew Caseley said the giveaway will reduce household costs across Wairoa and help locals be more sustainable.
"Our goal with the giveaway is to show Wairoa residents the benefits of LED lightbulbs, which will lead to reduced energy use and cost savings," Caseley said.
The LED giveaway is part of a series of trials run by EECA to encourage New Zealanders to make the switch from incandescent lightbulbs to more energy-efficient and climate-friendly LED lightbulbs.
