An attempted abduction in Hastings will be the focal point of popular crime show Police Ten 7 this week.
The show's presenter, Graham Bell, was in Hastings today working with his crew, police and a woman who was the victim of an attempted abduction this month.
Her story will be the
main feature of this week's Police Ten 7 show when it screens on Television One on Thursday. The victim, a Hastings woman in her early 40s, was walking from ANZ Stortford Lodge towards Peter Dunkerley's Chemist on September 15, 2008.
A polynesian man drove on the wrong side of the road, pulled up and asked if she wanted a lift. She refused.
The man drove off and pulled up on the wrong side of the road in the next block towards the chemist's and again offered a lift. He stepped out and tried to pull the woman towards his vehicle.
The victim, experienced in martial arts, fought him off, leaving him with a scratched face, and ran to the chemist's for help.
Detective Constable Martin James of the Hastings police said the car was distinctive, either a Ford Fairmont or Falcon. It was a maroon-red colour, with ``Ford Racing' handwritten in blue above the right-rear wheel arch.
``Someone out there knows this car and the distinctive Ford Racing writing on it,' Mr James said.
Police said the man they were looking for was Polynesian, late 30s to early 40s, and would have had scratches on his face after the incident. Mr James said police believed the attempted abduction was sexually motivated. Police hoped the story on television would bring information.
