Police have charged a woman with murder after a man died in the Napier suburb of Marewa today.

Emergency services were called to a home in Savage Cres about 11.10am after reports of an assault.

Detective Inspector Marty James said the man was found with critical injuries.

“Despite the best efforts of first responders, he died at the scene a short time after.”

Police have opened a homicide investigation, and a 26-year-old woman has been taken into custody and charged with murder.

She is due to appear in the Hastings District Court on Saturday, January 17.

At 4.08pm, James said Savage Cres remained cordoned off while police examined the scene and worked to establish what had happened.

Hato Hone St John was notified at 11.05am and responded with one ambulance, one rapid response unit and one operations manager.

A Hawke’s Bay Today reporter at the scene said nine police vehicles were at the site of the incident, and an ambulance was parked in a driveway.

The ambulance left shortly before police began taping off the property.

Residents interviewed by Hawke’s Bay Today on Friday on nearby Nuffield Ave were unaware of what had happened and said they had not heard any loud incidents in the lead-up.
