GREETINGS from Seattle, Washington! Back to the cold! While in Hawaii I thought about how there are three basic things everyone needs to do if they are interested in creating a fabulous life. So this week I wanted to give some simple yet life-changing advice on how to start creating the life of your dreams!
Here it is:
1. Books you absolutely must read
2. How to create a vision board
3. The power of a mentor/coach
First, lets start with what I believe are the top 10 personal development books. These books are pure genius on how to achieve the life of your dreams. They absolutely changed my life. Call the library! Check out the bookstore! Buy on Amazon! You must check these out:
1. Think and Grow Rich, Napoleon Hill
2. One Minute Millionaire, Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen
3. Awaken the Giant Within, Tony Robbins
4. How to Win Friends and Influence People, Dale Carnegie
5. Richest Man in Babylon, George Clason
6. The Slight Edge, Jeff Olson
7. Change Your Thoughts, Change Your Life, Wayne Dyer
8. The 4-hour Work Week, Timothy Ferriss
9. The Law of Attraction, Esther and Jerry Hicks
10. The power of Now, Eckhart Tolle
Let me know what you think! Your mind will never be the same!
Secondly, vision boards. Vision boards are collage boards, or coffee table sized books covered with pictures of everything you want in your life! Cut out pictures from magazines and stick them onto your board/book. You might have amazing travel destinations, luxury cars, houses, clothing, a picture of people getting married, pictures of happy families, beautiful bodies, shoes, sporting victories all cut out of magazines - you name it, if you want it, stick it on your vision board!
My vision book is filled with magazine pictures of exotic travel destinations, chefs, beautiful homes around the world etc. It sits on a table in my bedroom and every couple of days I turn the page. The idea is to look at this every single day and notice how you feel when you look at it. Excitement. Desire. Fun. Happiness - yay! We do this activity on our dance tours and it is so cool! Your brain cannot differentiate between real or imagined so whatever you focus on most is what you will receive. It is therefore in your best interests to create a vision board and stare at it every day believing that you have these things! Soon enough, you actually will.
I now have so many of the things in my vision board, and the rest are coming my way! Why? Because I believe that they will. It is attraction. What you focus on most is what you will get. Focus on poverty and you will always be poor. Focus on fabulous things, utilising a vision board to help, and sooner or later they will start to show up in your life.
Lastly, mentors and coaches. Now to be honest when I was at high school I thought coaches were only for sport and mentoring well. Apart from that I didn't have a clue. Today I hire and pay (substantial sums) incredibly successful people to coach and mentor me. Why? Well because they have achieved that which I desire to achieve or are very successful in their own right and can guide my businesses and me to the next level. You see if you are serious about getting ahead and achieving your dreams you need to seek out the people who have already achieved it. Then hire them to mentor you to teach you what to do. Just like if you want to be a doctor or lawyer, you hire/pay a university to teach you.
Mentors have done what you want to do and give advice on how to do it. Coaches help you to develop your skills to achieve and help you overcome obstacles and limiting beliefs. Both are fabulous. Too many of us take advice on money and success from people who don't have any money or success. Make sure those you ask for advice have actually done what you want to do. You wouldn't ask a ballet dancer how to become an All Black - they don't know! So don't ask your neighbour, family or friends how to be successful at something that they haven't done. You need a mentor/coach. They are so worth it.
I have coaches and mentors in New Zealand, Australia and Singapore. It is awesome having a team of people to offer advice and guidance when I need it. I now personally coach and mentor a select few young people each year. Mentors and coaches make achieving your dreams a lot faster because you can learn from their mistakes and not make the same mistakes yourself.
So - read books, create vision boards and seek out a mentor/coach! You rock!
