A teenage girl was attacked while out on a run in Napier this week.

The 17-year-old was running the stairs between Shakespeare Rd and Bay View Rd at about 6.30pm on Wednesday when she was targeted.

The stairway is near the corner of Shakespeare and Battery roads.

Police said a man wearing a dark hoodie grabbed the teen and pulled her towards him. They struggled for some time and the teenager managed to get away.

She suffered bruising in the struggle.
