A Napier man is in court facing insurance fraud charges.

A Napier insurance broker appeared briefly in Napier District Court on Friday.

David McGuffie is facing four charges of dishonestly using a document, namely insurance application forms, without claim of right between February 2011 and July 2013.

McGuffie, 50, denies making dishonest claims to four large insurance companies, namely Pinnacle Insurance, Asteron Insurance, Tower Insurance and AIA Insurance.

The Napier man was the owner and founder of Advanced Insurance, which was registered to a Havelock North address, and went into voluntary liquidation in February last year.

Insurance brokers arrange cover with an insurer on behalf of their clients.

McGuffie's company sold insurance through large providers, including the four companies which allegedly received his false claims.

He was remanded on bail to reappear in February, when his trial is set down to go ahead.
