Meanwhile on Tuesday one person was taken to hospital in Hawke's Bay Rescue Helicopter and two by road ambulance after another crash on State Highway 5, this time near Te Pohue.

Hawke's Bay Rescue Helicopter Trust general manager Ian Wilmot said three people were in the vehicle.

"We transported a female patient in her mid-20s, who had been a passenger in the vehicle," he said. "She suffered head, shoulder and arm injuries from the accident."
