Mrs Hampson had lived in the three-bedroom home for nine years, but felt with an attached flat, a quarter acre section, and a pool it was too big for just her.
"It's more suited to a family, and I wanted a family to enjoy it."
Ms Hampson's home had been on the market for a month in August, but she had withdrawn the sale after a lack of interest. Unlike the offers made in December, those Ms Hampson received in August were all below asking price.
REINZ figures released yesterday showed Ms Hampson was not alone with the increased interest in her property.
In December the median house price in the region had reached a record high, and Hawke's Bay was the only region outside of Auckland to experience increased sales volumes compared to November.
While Ms Hampson thought her sale reflected the heat of Hawke's Bay's property market, she also thought the presentation of her home had contributed to the quick sale. "[In August] it was coming out of winter, so the garden was looking pretty drab and messy. This time I had more time to get into the garden and tidy it up."
With the property selling for more than she had originally paid in 2007, Ms Hampson was planning on putting the profit toward a new home she hoped to build.
