This sort of weather setup with a bit of wind and cloud was not uncommon for early August but the expected temperatures were higher than usual, he said.
This would be a bit of a contrast to the last few days which had been cooler due to a southeasterly flow.
This had been crossing Hawke's Bay for the last few days bringing with it some showers and cooler overnight temperatures including a high of 14C and lows of 1-2C today.
This was expected to continue until at least this morning but would clear by this afternoon, he said.
Another front is expected to approach the country on Tuesday but would not make it to Hawke's Bay until Wednesday, bringing patches of cloud.
There is also a severe weather warning with moderate chances of heavy rain and severe northerly gales in the Kaweka and Huiarau Ranges west and north of Hawke's Bay on Tuesday and Wednesday from the northwesterly flow caused by the front moving across the country.
