“However, coolest is a very relative term I’m using here because they’re still staring down the barrel of between 29C to 31C over the next three days,” Holden said.
“Then, as we get further into next week, in this case Tuesday and Wednesday, things do cool off.
“But when I say cool off, again, we’re talking very relative here because we are going from 33C to 30C in places like Hastings.”
“We’re looking at overnight temperatures of between 13C to 17C, depending on where you are across the Hawke’s Bay.
“So, it does cool off at least a little bit overnight, so it’s not going to be completely steaming.
“But during the daytime, you could very easily cook an egg on a bonnet.”

Northwest winds will create a foehn effect – a phenomenon where the wind heats up dramatically as it drops down a slope, shedding its moisture.
“You don’t get these types of temperatures without very warm and dry northwesterlies flying themselves over the ranges and then down on to the poor folk of Hawke’s Bay,” Holden said.
“We’re not looking at particularly strong winds, especially over the weekend, where we’re expecting our highest temperatures.”
On Monday, Holden said the wind will pick up “not enough to strap your trampoline down”, but they will be very warm.
“Looking further out into the week, those northwesterlies still persist, but again, they’re nothing to be concerned about.”
Only isolated showers are expected around the Ruahine Range.
“But we’re not expecting any sort of rain relief for those down on the plains,” Holden said.
High cloud will roll over the region from Monday, which Holden said may mean muggier heat from Tuesday.
“But otherwise, it’s going to be like clear skies, hot, clear skies, proper summer conditions for Hawke’s Bay over this weekend.”
Much of the Hawke’s Bay District fire zone is currently in a restricted season, meaning a permit is required from Fire and Emergency New Zealand to light a fire in the open air.
