Hawke's Bay Today has posted the top audited circulation figure within APN Regional Newspapers.
The newspaper's circulation at the end of 2010 stood at 24,682 - a decline of just -0.5 per cent.
Editor Antony Phillips said the staff of Hawke's Bay Today were thrilled with the result.
"We have worked very hard
to improve Hawke's Bay Today, to make it more relevant to our readers and to better reflect the special region we call home.
"Readers have appreciated a more vibrant daily paper and stuck with us and that's what we need in order to continue Hawke's Bay's proud tradition of publishing its own regional newspaper.
"Of the eight regional newspapers published by APN in New Zealand, Hawke's Bay Today did the best at holding its ground and we thank our readers for their support."
The two best performing national newspapers were Hawke's Bay Today's stablemates The New Zealand Herald and Herald on Sunday which posted positive 12-month audit results of 0.1 per cent and 6.4 per cent respectively. Wellington's Dominion Post declined by 4.6 per cent for the 12-month period.
