The Middle Road Store in Havelock North had a heavy police presence.

One person has been hospitalised with head injuries after an alleged attack and robbery at a Havelock North dairy this afternoon.

One person has been taken into custody.

Police were called to Middle Rd after three people allegedly entered what Hawke’s Bay Today believed to be the Middle Road Store at 1.30pm.

The offenders allegedly stole money and other unknown items before assaulting an employee. They then fled the area.

A police spokeswoman said the victim had head injuries.

“There is an increased police presence in the area while inquiries are ongoing to locate the remaining offenders.”

Police said there was no ongoing risk to the public.

“If you have any information relating to this robbery, please contact police on 111 using the reference number P061520446.”

Hato Hone St John was notified of the incident at 1.31pm, and took the injured person to Hawke’s Bay Hospital in a moderate condition.
