"Their Mini is an original and it's had a wee bit of work done under the bonnet because it's going to be quite a long journey. We've got an office in Kaitaia and they'll be holding a street party for them when they arrive and all the funds from that will go to KidsCan as well."
Karyn Glew said the rally was something she had always wanted to do and said it was a nail-biting process when it came to entering the event.
"There's only 60 spots available and it's the same process you'd go through waiting to buy a Mission Concert ticket - you have to wait in line. Even though I logged onto the website early, we managed to get the 41st place, so it's definitely a case of first-in, first-served."
The couple have owned their beloved bright yellow Mini for about 10 years and have spent about $10,000 on it.
"The Mini just had new seats put in, but in order to put them in, they cut away part of the chassis - which holds the whole car together, so they had to take it off the road and fix that up. The car was still in bits yesterday, but it all seems to be fine now."
