Napier has scored a major concert coup with the weekend announcement that jazz rock icons Steely Dan will perform at Church Road Winery with legendary British vocalist Steve Winwood in November.
The Guy Fawkes Day concert (Saturday, November 5, 4pm-10pm), will be the third of a three-gig tour and the only
outdoor event after arena shows at Addington in Christchurch on November 2 and Auckland's Vector Arena on November 4.
Originals Walter Becker and Donald Fagen were particularly prominent in the 1970s with hits such as Reelin' in the Years and Rikki Don't Lose That Number, but first toured New Zealand just four years ago.
They will be joined by their eight-strong Miles High Big Band, and back-up trio Embassy Rats.
Winwood was just a teenager when he hit the big time with Spencer Davis, but was on an even bigger pedestal in the 1970s with one of the first super groups, Blind Faith, including Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker. It will be his first New Zealand tour.
Kiwi songstress Anika Moa will tour as a support act.
Tickets go on sale next Monday, with three prices from $109.50 to $190.50.
