It's not just Hawke's Bay wine setting the gold standard - we're also home to the country's top espresso.
Hastings' coffee roaster Bay Espresso has won gold at the Huhtamaki New Zealand Coffee Awards.
Bay Espresso won the NZ Roasted Espresso category, and also took a silver medal in the Stonka Organic
section.
Owner Chris Jarvis said he was "absolutely stoked" with the result.
"It's really incredible, really good news," he said.
The winning coffee was a new blend developed for Bay Espresso's new Havelock North cafe, Adam and Eva's.
Mr Jarvis said it was a lighter blend that allowed the natural coffee bean flavour to come out.
It was pleasing to see so many Hawke's Bay roasters featuring in the awards, he said.
"Hawke's Bay is very well represented, and I think for a small region, it's an outstanding result."
Switch of Napier was awarded bronzes in the NZ Roasted Espresso section and the MIT Foodservice Filter/Plunger sections, while Hawthorne of Havelock North was similarly awarded in the Natvia Ethically Traded section and earned a silver in the CityLife Supermarket Espresso category.
Aurum of Hastings took out silver in the MIT Foodservice Filter/Plunger section.
Auckland coffee-roasting company Avalanche won the supreme award with its Glacier coffee blend beating out nearly 300 other entries. The coffees were judged over two days in Auckland late last week.
