Local company Redmond Builders not only took home the Supreme Award, they also won five other regional awards, including the Resene New Home over $2 million category, the Craftmanship Award, the Outdoor Living Award, the Plumbing World Bathroom Excellence Award and the Heart of the Home Kitchen Award.

The home gives a knowing nod to classic Californian design with its clean contemporary lines framing light-filled interiors.

The main house is spread over three levels: basement, garaging and living, then bedrooms above. A total of five bedrooms, four bathrooms and three living spaces provide ample options for family life.

Visitors are well taken care of in the property's self-contained guest house. They can also enjoy the 25m heated swimming pool, gym and sauna which make this a leisure-lover's paradise.

More than 1400sq m of concrete were poured into the construction of this architectural gem.

It's also the main material used in the internal doors and joinery but in the bedroom you can enjoy the comfort of carpet.

Judges said this is an exceptional home which has spaces to capture good lighting and good views.

"The house has a mid-century modern feel that flows throughout the house to the outdoors. From a restrained and elegant entry, clad in travertine, to the floating cantilevered first floor, the home has a high construction quality and detailing that belies the complex structure beneath.

"The simplicity and clarity of forms in this home cover up the complex details. From complex concrete forms to significant cantilevers, this build required accuracy and perfection from the start. The quality of materials, and their composition and installation helped produce an excellent result.
