Havelock North's thriving business community has come together to recognise a host of the village's most enduring names.

More than 50 of Havelock North's most long-standing businesses celebrated their combined 800 years of success at the annual Havelock North Business Awards with a new award category on Thursday night.

Havelock North Business Association's president Jane Mackersey said this year, the new longevity awards aimed to recognise those Havelock North businesses that had achieved decade milestones - from 10 years through to 100 or more.

"We wanted to pay tribute by thanking and celebrating the significant contributions these local businesses have made to Havelock North.

"They have overcome the high odds of business attrition, sustaining families, providing jobs in our community, and have all helped to make up the colourful tapestry that is business in the village."

"These are a fantastic addition to our popular Peoples' Choice Awards which are chosen via Facebook public voting, and have proven to be a great way to engage with customers and supporters."

She made special mention of Ziera's Heather Ewart who took out the "Show the Love" award for the person who gives the best service and also allows for staff voting participation.

"Nominated and chosen by the public, as the winner of this award Heather personifies our brand 'Love the Village'. She consistently offers great service and is a great ambassador for Havelock North."

Terry Longley and Son funeral directors managing director Shann Longley said both he, his father, Terry, and son - also Terry - were "thrilled" to receive both the Favourite Service Provider Award and a 50-year Longevity Award.

"It was very special. It was also special to have my father Terry there and my son - three generations - so it was really special."

Hastings Mayor Sandra Hazlehurst congratulated all of the winners of this year's Havelock North Business Awards.

"It is wonderful that we can come together to recognise those people who contribute so much to the vibrancy and atmosphere of our Havelock North village.
