His performance started as soon as he arrived at the theatre, because Guy Williams offstage is the same Guy Williams you encounter on stage - tall, loud and slightly awkward.
The Little Theatre was packed, the audience filling every seat in the room.
The opening music, which varied from Drake to Whitney Houston, was as eclectic as Williams' personality.
Once the curtains opened Williams played announcer and welcomed himself to the stage.
He began by discussing the highlights of Hawke's Bay, according to Williams. These included having Countdown supermarkets across the road from each other and the arson of the pirate ship at Splash Planet, Hastings.
Earlier in the day he visited Cape Kidnappers and described the gannets as "posh seagulls".
He took plenty of stabs at his audience, including a doctor, a stonemason and anyone from Havelock North.
A ZM Radio listener was also given a ribbing.
At one point he suggested he would "pick someone to crucify" to shake things up.
Williams' topics were so well woven together that the entire show seemed off the cuff and the audience was cleverly engaged for the entire hour. Subjects included life hacks, shop-assistant conversation and the persistence of cats.
He had a lot of throwaway lines about people he didn't like which, delivered by anyone else, would have been unwelcome - but his likable persona and charm made it amusing.
He even waited outside in the cold after his show to thank his audience for attending, taking numerous pictures and delivering hugs.
All in all, it was a comedy show not to be missed, by a comedian who was affable, self-deprecating and not at all underwhelming.
